About the business
About Moonies Movers
A family owned and operated house and furniture removalist company on South Eyre Road in Christchurch, founded and led by Mike Moon.
The short version
Moonies Movers is a family owned and operated house and furniture removalist company based in Christchurch, working from 1620 South Eyre Road. It is led by Mike Moon, who has over 38 years of experience in the furniture and home removal industry and is described as a master artist at stacking and loading a household. The team is highly trained by Mike.
The business offers cost-effective removal solutions: free, no-obligation quotes, or work priced at hourly rates. It covers Christchurch and the surrounding areas, and takes on North Canterbury jobs. There are no published opening hours — every job is arranged by calling Mike on 027 474 8717.
That is the whole pitch, and it is an unusual one in this trade: a small family firm where the person who answers the phone is the person who has done the job for nearly four decades.
Why the load matters more than the van
Anyone can move a sofa down a driveway. The difference between a smooth move and an expensive one is what happens after the furniture is inside the truck: how it is stacked, what is tied down, what is wrapped, and whether the pieces that have to come apart are taken apart before they are lifted rather than after something breaks.
That is the part of the job Mike has spent 38 years getting good at, and the reason the team is trained by him rather than picked up off the street. It is also why the photographs on this site are the photographs of actual loads: a garage stacked at the end of a day, a timber shed packed to the trusses, a house left bare.
How the business is described
Moonies Movers is described in local community groups as highly respected and recommended, and the same view shows up in the public record on Facebook: 90% recommend from 22 reviews, on a page with 856 followers. The business is also active in community groups around the wider Canterbury region, which is where a lot of removal work comes from.
We would rather let those numbers speak than dress them up. They are the only claims on this site that are not simply a description of the work.
What to do next
Ring Mike on 027 474 8717 and describe what needs moving, from where and to where. You will get a free, no-obligation quote, and you can ask for hourly rates instead if the shape of the job suits it better. The removal services page lists the four ways people usually use us.
What Moonies stands for
38 years of doing one thing well
Mike Moon has been in the furniture and home removal industry for over 38 years. He is described as a master artist at stacking and loading a household — the skill that decides whether a load arrives intact or arrives in pieces.
A team he trained himself
The people on the truck are highly trained by Mike. That matters on the days when a staircase is narrow, a wardrobe is heavier than it looks, or a grandmother's cabinet will not come apart cleanly.
A family company, not a franchise
Moonies Movers Ltd is family owned and operated. When you ring, you speak to the person who will be running the move, and the person who prices the job is the person who does it.
Respect that is measurable
In local community groups the business is described as highly respected and recommended. 90% of Facebook reviewers say the same, from 22 reviews, on a page with 856 followers.
Ring Mike and get a free quote
Tell the team what is moving, where it is going, and when you would like it done. The quote is free and there is no obligation — or ask for hourly rates if that suits the job better.
